Meet Jessica Summer

Summer
I am a transgender woman who’s love of writing started when I wrote my first ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ book at age ten with Judy Blume’s ‘Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing’ being my first inspiration into the world of make-believe. This love led to a degree in English Literature/Creative Writing from Michigan State University where I studied abroad in London.

I love to spend much of my waking time in the fictional worlds I create, and when not writing or reading, I love to cook fun and experimental cuisines, spend time on the beach with friends, and listen to Epic Music Scores from my favorite movies.

Being a transgender woman, I grew up having to hide my truth from the world. Today, I use those personal experiences to create strong and believable heroines, with paradoxical, dangerous, and beautiful stories to be told.

My current novel started out to tell a fantastical crime thriller and grew into telling a part of my own story and learning what it truly means to be transgender – to be trapped between two worlds and not understand my feelings, to find our place in the world and where our hearts truly belong – and how this 'difference' is what can bring the world together. I have studied history, geography, religion, spirituality, and mythology to find where I fit into this world and believe I found it through a spiritual and historical connection that can transform the transgender community from a beautifully dark secret into a beautifully lit truth. I consider my novels to be LGBT anthropology thrillers and am currently writing my next novel.
